Homework, Part 1
1) If you believe that all students should be Web literate, what is the best strategy for your school to prepare you with this skill? Explain.
I believe the best strategy for my school to prepare me with this skill is to place me in a web literate class; which they have called College Research Skills. In this class, us students learn the necessary skills to become Web literate. Another way for my school to prepare me for web literacy, is to give me certain assignments in order to practice my skills. By practicing, I can get the best experience using Web literacy.
2) What skills should all teachers have to be Web literate? Explain.
All teachers should have the skill of being able to search the web. By applying this skill, they gain better experience finding research to teach to their students. Web Literacy is a very important skill for everyone in the school district to have. By understanding the web, we expand our knowledge to the facts and opinions of our outside world, learning a subject better.
3) What role should school filtering play in your school district? Explain why schools should block or not block Web sites.
School filtering plays a major role in my school district. There are a multiple amount of things all over the internet that are either extremely inappropriate or completely untrue. School districts want students to use the internet to expand their knowledge on all school subjects and would like students to avoid false information that could potentially effect their work in a negative way. Schools should block certain websites because it can either give a virus to the school computers or create new false knowledge within the school district.
4) Do you believe the Internet is as big a transformer of culture as the printing press? Explain.
I believe the Internet is a big transformer of culture just as the printing press because it potentially changed and shaped our culture for the last 20 years since it was invented. The printing press was created in order to provide us with new events, new facts and new ideas for our society to build upon. The internet also provides our society with news, ideas, facts, opinions as well as other things like social media, entertainment, etc. Our culture has changed because of the Internet and it has helped us advance in an unexplained amount of ways.
5) If yes, what parts of our culture do you believe will be most affected? Explain.
In our culture, I believe the younger generations will be most affected mainly because our younger generation is newly active within the Internet and everything it has to offer. It has became our source of knowledge and also our source of entertainment. That can be a positive and negative thing, because not everything on the internet is true and younger generations, not being as academically experienced as other people, will not know the difference between what is right and what is wrong. But, with school, it can be a major source of information which can expand their knowledge over all.
You did a great job with this Jocelyn!
